Designer Spotlight: Emily Berger

Full Name:  Emily (E.B) Berger

Age: 21

Hometown: Charleston, SC

Year at Liberty: Junior at Liberty University

Years Doing the Fashion Show: This is my second year doing the fashion show. Yay!

Materials being used: I’m using a myriad of different materials. I’m using everything from curtains, to old bed sheets, to old clothing (found both in people’s wardrobes and thrift shop).

Design inspiration (paragraph or more explaining where your inspiration comes from): My vision for my line has been this; what would a well rounded, artistically driven, modern-day renaissance man or woman, well traveled, and confident young professional wear that would describe their individuality? I had visions of Britain during the 90’s, old coffee shops, the season of fall, backpacking through the British Isles, and the less tropical colors of downtown Charleston, SC. I have been dreaming of most of the pieces that I have been creating fro the show, and others are my takes on classic wardrobe staples that everyone has to have. I have also been very inspired by the idea of balancing masculinity and femininity. Who says that a man needs to wear only what the other guys are wearing, or that a woman can’t look fabulous in a men’s sweater?

Favorite part about participating so far: So far, my favorite part of the whole fashion show process has been hunting for materials. A great deal of changes in my designs had to be made after hunting through countless thrift shops. It is so exciting to come across a piece that’s hidden in racks of discarded clothes, and letting that piece’s potential speak to my design aesthetic.

Who are your models? My models are the poised Taylor Day Howell, elegant Kayla Humphries, dashing Dwight McGlynn, and well-quaffed Stephen Matherlee.
