Designer Spotlight: Rachel Haldeman

Full Name: Rachel Haldeman

Age: 22

Hometown: Sellersville, PA

Year at Liberty: Senior

Years Doing the Fashion Show: First timer

Materials being used: Recycled sheet, table cloth, and fake plants

Design inspiration (paragraph or more explaining where your inspiration comes from): I knew starting off that I wanted to make a floor length dress that was both elegant, but also played off the theme of “go green” with earthy colors. I loved the idea of gold accents, so I wanted to include that in the process as well. The concept of using recycled materials and making them into beautiful garments inspired me to be open-minded when looking for pieces to use for my design. It was a neat reminder of the gospel, and the way God transforms ordinary to extraordinary. We as designers just get a small glimpse of that in this process.

Favorite part about participating so far: I had a lot of fun challenging myself and seeing the transformation come together from recycled materials to a garment.

Designer Spotlight: Amy Yoon

Full Name: Amy Yoon

Age: 21

Hometown: Ilsan, Republic of Korea

Year at Liberty: Junior

Years Doing the Fashion Show: First year!

Materials being used: Trash bag, grocery plastic bag, and used ribbon.

Design inspiration (paragraph or more explaining where your inspiration comes from)
Although we have many unlimited materials we can use around us, I chose plastic bags because it’s flowing and has lightweight. Unfortunately, It was harder than I ever thought. I really wanted my design looks just a wearable dress, not like “Hey, that’s a plastic bag.” Through this fashion show, I even more appreciated that we have conventional fabrics in good quality in our life.

Favorite part about participating so far: I can’t particularly say what’s my favorite part. Because every process for the fashion show really inspired me a lot and made me to think about my future career and creativity. It’s really fun and interesting to watch other designers’ garments with using different materials have done so far.

Who are your models? My good sweet friend, Min Hye Kang

Designer Spotlight: Stephanie Kimmel

Full Name: Stephanie Kimmel

Age: 22

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Year at Liberty: Senior

Years Doing the Fashion Show: 2

Materials being used: Recycled curtains and broken necklaces

Design inspiration:
For my designs I was truly inspired by travel, and a sense of luxury. I wanted to take something, which has been recycled, and make it appear to be new and expensive looking. I was truly inspired by the likes of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, as well as Marisa Berenson in the 1960’s. In the creative process I always have the ideal muse in mind, and visualize what she would want to wear to the places she travels. Hence the color scheme consisting primarily of gold and black, as well as pearl and Swarovski embellishments for detailing.

Favorite part about participating so far: Searching and hunting for the most exquisite textiles for each look!

Designer Spotlight: Bethany Wingert

Name: Bethany Wingert

Age: 22

 Hometown: Chambersburg, PA

Year: Senior!!

First year doing the fashion show!

Materials: Bed sheets and paper plates

Inspiration:  I love formal wear and I wanted to create looks that brought formal wear and unusual materials together.  In the process of creating these two looks I tried many different things and nothing worked out, until one day the idea of using paper plates came to mind.  I took that idea and ran with it and I’m really happy with how it has turned out.

Favorite part so far:  My favorite part of the fashion show so far has to the constructing part.  I have learned so much through making my dresses.  When I signed up to do the fashion show I had no idea what I was doing, but through much trial and error I ended up with two awesome looks.

Models: Danielle Allen and Macey Lutz (They are the best!)

Designer Spotlight: Sarah Bell

  Full Name: Sarah Eliza Bell

 Age: 20

Hometown: Loudon, New Hampshire

Year at Liberty: Junior

Years Doing the Fashion Show: This is my 2nd year doing the show!

Materials being used: All of the materials I am using are things we throw away. Specifically, I am using magazines, Walmart bags, trash bags, saran wrap, newspaper, and various random plastic materials.

Design inspiration (paragraph or more explaining where your inspiration comes from): My inspiration come from all over. I am inspired by what I see, what I feel, and the materials themselves (they have a mind of their own). The theme for this year’s show, Go Green Go Glam, allowed the designers to recycle and reuse materials. Being a lover of Haute Couture and avant garde fashions, I decided to pick unconventional materials. As I began to brainstorm and gather my materials, I realized that they were all trash. I am very creative, so using these materials allowed me an outlet for that creativity. I also love how the dresses are not only artistic but also can be used as a way to cause awareness for how much we waste.

Favorite part about participating so far: I love a good challenge, and this year has definitely pushed me beyond my comfort zone and expertise. I am learning so much just by pushing myself and I think that has been the most frustrating, and yet ironically, the best and my favorite part of this experience.

Who are your models? I am very blessed to have these beautiful ladies model the garments: Sarah Lukaszewski, Melissa Ann DiFazio, Emily Canfield, and Hannah Scherbenske.
